Where Are They Now – Matthew Barsatan

Since graduating from LHES in 2011, Matthew Barsatan has been busy pursuing a career in electrical installation. He worked at Island Air while attending Honolulu Community College, earning his associate’s degree in applied science-electrical installation and maintenance technology. After graduation, he continued on the path to become a licensed journey worker and scored an electrician apprenticeship in the highly coveted Inside Wireperson Program.

After nearly five years, almost 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and close to 800 hours of classroom time, Matt is currently wrapping up his last semester in the program. The next step for Matt will be the EJ license examinations, which will grant him a license to work in the state of Hawaii.

When he is not working and training, he is focusing on self-improvement and raising his young daughter. His connection to Lanai remains strong, with his father and mother, Marino and Minda, still living on the island. According to Matt, there is a lot to miss about Lanai.

“I miss that there’s no traffic and the relaxed pace. I miss hunting and fishing. I miss all my family back home and my mom’s cooking.”

“Where are they now?” features alumni from Lanai High and Elementary School to see what they’ve been up to since graduation.
