Lanai to Launch First-ever 5th Friday Event

Tired of spending all your hard-earned dollars boosting Maui’s economy? If so, the Lanai Chamber of Commerce is hosting a first-of-its-kind event to help promote local businesses and offer a family-friendly event with the launch of 5th Friday Lanai.
Lanai City merchants, restaurants, crafters and musicians are teaming up on Aug. 29 from 5:30–8:30 p.m. to provide a new experience for residents and visitors. Take a stroll around Dole Park to visit local businesses, sample unique food offerings at your favorite restaurants, receive discounts, and stop in and discover something new, even at places you’ve supported regularly for years. There will be live music, food and drinks, prize drawings and more.
Be sure to cruise by Richard’s Market to watch chef Junior Ulep throw it down as he prepares a broke da mouth seafood stew and kiawe-grilled baby back ribs with smoked guava glaze over an Asian pear and green papaya slaw. Visit participating merchants around the square to vote for your favorite Trash 2 Art contest entry, hosted by the Lanai Art Center. There will also be special food and drink specials and discounts offered at Pele’s Other Garden, Anuenue Juice, Local Gentry, Mike Carroll Gallery, Mimi’s Salon & Spa, Cory Labang Studio, Canoes Lanai, Blue Ginger, Island Treasures, Project Caya, Island Images Salon, Kumu Ola Farms, Fusion Food Truck, Hawaii Western Adventures, Religious Experience Salsa and Carmen’s Mexican Food.
Local and neighbor island performers will be playing at various locations throughout the event. Café 565 visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy sounds from Bobby Zarsoza, Lanai Arts Center will feature Dr. Greg and Pierce Myers, and Lanai’s very own RedKrown will have a special performance at Pele’s Other Garden. Mimi’s and Richard’s Market will also feature live music performances.
The community is encouraged to pick up a 5th Friday passport at participating businesses for $5 presale or $10 at the event. Collect stamps at each business for a chance to enjoy discounts and prizes.
