Kona Teacher Comes to Lanai

Oahu-born Pauline Fleischauer enjoys life outside the city. She spent her last five years in a small town in South Kona teaching pre-K special education. She moved to Lanai this summer to become the school’s new elementary/preschool special education teacher.

One quality about Lanai that stood out to Ms. Fleischauer is the community’s emphasis on education.

“I like that the school is centralized in the community,” she says. “It seems like the school is the focus in town. I like that there are three vice principals.”

She lives in the teacher’s cottage with her 14-year-old son, Thor, and enjoys the commute and convenience.

“The school is in close proximity to my home. Many things are in walking distance — I plan to walk and may even get a bike. Parents are close by and I can see them daily.”

In her spare time, Ms. Fleischauer enjoys sewing, gardening and surfing, and is looking forward to pursuing her hobbies and meeting new people on Lanai.
