Our Neighbors

Since 1987, the Lanai Golf Classic has brought the community together in a friendly tournament over Lanai’s most scenic courses. This year marks the 33rd tournament since Doc Fujimoto, Marc Orlowski and the late Dodge Baybayan first dreamed up the event. The original organizers started the Classic as a way to unite the golf community, similar to the Lanai Golf Invitational Tournament held on Oahu for Lanaians and former Lanaians. Throughout the years, the event has grown to a large affair consisting of food, prizes and the spirit of ohana.

Neal Tamashiro and Scott Ashworth chaired this year’s tournament held on July 13 and 14 at the scenic Four Seasons Resort Lanai Manele Golf Course. A total of 72 players teed off, including seven women, two Super Senior men and one junior golfer. Lanai Golf Association (LGA) members came from the Big Island, Maui, Oahu and as far as Boise, Idaho.

The Classic has also served as a fundraiser for LHES golf, tennis and wrestling programs throughout the years. This year’s tournament raised $4,690 for the LHES golf team to help defray costs associated with competing in the Maui Interscholastic League.

This event was made possible by donations from Maui and Lanai hotels, golf courses, businesses, individuals, and by the organizational support of the LGA members.
