Medical kiosk technology comes to Lanai

Lanai Well, a new medical kiosk at Rainbow Pharmacy Lanai, provides an alternative to doctor’s appointments.
A new Wahi Ola or place of health will soon be available through Lanai Well, a medical kiosk located in Rainbow Pharmacy.
A small but private enclosure, a medical kiosk provides health care consultations through technology. Two-way videoconferencing allows patients to interact with board-certified physicians, while interactive medical devices capture intake information and clinical data. For example, Lanai Well can measure body mass index, monitor blood pressure and heart rate and gauge lung capacity with spirometry.
After each visit, users receive a comprehensive electronic summary to share with their doctors. The summary supports continuity of care and includes notes, diagnoses, prescriptions and recommended follow-ups. For the convenience of patients, prescriptions are made available to Rainbow Pharmacy immediately following the appointment. This new form of technology can aid your physician, especially for acute care, and offers a convenient way to receive care when your local physician is not available.
When to use Lanai Well
Lanai Well is intended to provide the Lanai community with an additional health care option — an alternative to costlier visits to the emergency room for illnesses like colds and mild flu, allergies, insect stings, back pain, etc. Through the telehealth portal, physicians can diagnose common conditions, including but not limited to:
- Sinus Infections
- Cold and flu
- Sore throat
- Allergies
- Pink eye
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
However, Lanai Well does not replace ongoing treatment by a doctor, nor is it appropriate for emergency care. If you experience chest pain or shortness of breath, you should go to the emergency room immediately.
Where to access the medical kiosk
Lanai Well will be available by the end of March in Rainbow Pharmacy. The kiosk functions similar to a walk-in clinic because Lanai community members do not need an appointment to use the service, and wait times are expected to be short.
The cost to use the medical kiosk varies depending on health insurance coverage. HMSA is accepted by Lanai Well and regular copayment fees apply to each use of service. For non-HMSA subscribers, the starting fee for each medical kiosk visit is$56.
Rainbow Pharmacy and the Lanai Well medical kiosk are located at 431 7th Street on Dole Square. Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
