It takes many hands working together to create positive, lasting change on Lanai. It’s no wonder the theme of this month’s Pulama Lanai-Four Seasons assembly was laulima, the Hawaiian word for cooperation – or more literally translated, many hands.
More than 200 gathered together at the Pulama Lanai-Four Seasons assembly to welcome Manele Bay Hotel staff members into the fold that already included the Koele Hotel staff -- nearly tripling the number of people collaborating on projects in Pulama Lanai departments and in community based organizations throughout the island. The assembly featured the many partnerships created and was an opportunity to share the results of their hard work in the community and with other departments.
In June, Manele Bay and Koele employees stepped outside of their usual roles and connected with Lanai children in the summer school program, Moolelo o Lanai. The Culture and Historic Preservation crew formed a chain of people to recreate an ancient wall of rocks. The Facilities, Nursery, Civil Landscape, Maintenance and Fleet departments worked diligently to fix, beautify and maintain our island from the soil and plants to building structures.
Now, with even more hands involved than before, the Pulama Lanai-Four Seasons team continues to work together with the community to perpetuate the culture and resources of Lanai.
